A few weeks ago I attended my first music festival, Outside Lands in Golden Gate Park in the lovely San Francisco. Besides a notable musical lineup, I find any excuse to seek cooler weather (Carl the Fog did not disappoint), and there was GOOD food. Those who know me know that I am highly motivated by good food. They had entire food zones dedicated to specific food/drink (i.e., Chocoland, Winelands). Some of SF’s most popular restaurants offered their culinary fare at Outside Lands. In a span three days, I got to try a citrus glazed morning bun from Tartine, Porcini donuts, a chicken tikka masala burrito, maple-glazed bacon brussel sprouts, and an ice cream taco.
Plus, I enjoyed some really great music. Solange was the highlight performer and closed out the OSL on the last night. One of the most memorable parts was the great people I experienced the festival with and new people I met. This was just one of the many reasons why this summer has been one of the best ever.
Unlike the cut-off shorts and crop top crowd of Coachella, it was much cooler in SF. It remained overcast almost the entire weekend and even rained a couple times. I must admit, this is one of my favorite outfits that I have shared on the blog. Why? It’s incredibly comfortable while having a bit of an edge. Each piece can be worn with multiple other pieces. And, it’s mainly black.
First, this thermal…it’s incredibly soft with long, fitted sleeves with thumb holes. The V-neck sits a bit low so it’s great for layering; I opted for an olive sports bra. I have this top in two colors (they come in a bunch of appealing colors) and have been eyeing a third color. I also like that the length of this thermal is longer to provide more coverage. Switch out the leggings for dark skinny jeans and boots for a casual but chic night out, or wear it with a slip dress, opaque tights, and booties to dress it up.
Second, these leggings are some of the best I have ever tried. Before I launch into an ode, I want to clarify that I don’t use them to work out in. They are purely for style and comfort. I purchased these Zella leggings during the Nordstrom Anniversary Sale about a month ago. This is going to be one of those pieces that will be worth it looking at cost per wear. They stretch but are thick enough to remain opaque with movement. It is high waisted and “holds everything in.” Meanwhile, the “rips” give an interesting sartorial detail; they are seamed around the opening so the material will not curl or bunch. Alternately, I can pair this with a leather jacket, a t-shirt and flannel, a loose tank and sneakers…lots of possibilities here! In this case, I paired it with my trusty metallic boots that are chic but still easy to walk around in. To complete the look, I added lots of delicate gold jewelry and let my hair blow in the wind for a change. During the cooler evenings, I wore one of my favorite jackets, which is another Nordstrom sale purchase. It’s not shown here, but stay tuned!

I loved sharing with you this new, fun experience as well as some super versatile pieces that echo the fall sentiment.

Get them girl!! They were one of my best purchases of 2016. When I want to dress up an outfit and don’t want to wear heels, these are it. I’d love to see how you style them.
