I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving filled with time with loved ones. Mine started out with my own version of a Turkey Trot…a 3.25 mile run and proceeded to pie pickups, a last minute grocery run, hours cooking in the kitchen, watching football, and all of us stuffing ourselves with delicious food.
Since I am in a sentimental mood, I want to take the time to express my sincere gratitude for all of your support on this little passion project that is The Prudence Profile. It truly means so much when I get encouragement on what I do here and when people email, text, and Instagram me about beauty, style, and non-related issues. I love this little community that is here.
On this Black Friday, instead of sharing favorite fashion and beauty items, I wanted to take the time to share a bit more about myself. I am excited to share that I have been nominated by Filipa from Beauty. Looks. Fun. for the Liebster Award. For those of you who may not know what this is, it an nomination that is given to bloggers by other bloggers that embody the word “Liebster, ” which is German for “beloved” and”dearest.” Filipa, thank you for considering me in this and showing me love and support! It’s wonderful that the blogger community has created this to connect and encourage fellow bloggers.
She asked some great questions that I answer below. I cover topics that I have never discussed before so I hope this helps you get to know me a little bit more.
If you could live anywhere in the world where it would be?
This is a tough one…I need to visit more places to truly know where I would want to live. I am more of a city girl so it would definitely be in a city area with plenty of diverse food, shopping, and cultural/creative events available. When it comes down to it, as long as I am close to my loved ones and my dogs, I can be pretty happy.
What is your favorite makeup item?
A nice lipstick will always pull everything together. As some of you may know, my makeup weakness are lip products (raise your hand if you’re on the same proverbial beauty boat!). For the past couple months, I have been especially into lip stains with the Lancome Matte Shakers and NARS Velvet Lip Glides being two current favorites. No matter one’s preference, there is a lip color and finish that will fit the bold to the basic (I oscillate from one end to the other).
What is you dream job?
I have never shared my “daytime job” here on the blog. I am an occupational therapist. Specifically, I work in rehabilitation with people who have sustained brain injuries and strokes. It’s an entirely different world than style and beauty. I completely love it and strive to be an effective and smart clinician. What I define as my “dream” changes as I grow as a person. I would love to be a part of a medical and engineering research team to develop innovative technologies to better treat individuals who have sustained strokes in order to maximize neuromuscular recovery and movement.
I also want to grow this blog into a larger platform where normal, like-minded people can share their love for beauty and style, receive honest reviews on products, and get sartorial inspiration. Aside from that, I would add part-time writer. The list goes on…
What is your favorite fashion item?
My favorite fashion item is a black, beaded clutch that once belonged to my grandmother. It smells like mothballs and each time I use it, additional cascades of beads unravel, but I cherish it. I love vintage items that have a history. I appreciate the craftsmanship of each carefully placed detail.
If you could only eat one thing for the rest of your life what would be?
French Fries.
What made you want to start blogging?/What do you love the most about blogging?
I wanted to blog for YEARS before I actually started. Life got too busy and then I chickened out (“What if it’s no good?” “What if no one reads it?”). However, I finally decided to do so, because at a certain point, I felt most true to myself to pursue my creativity. It brings me joy when I craft the perfect outfit or when I create a makeup look. It’s not a serious business, but sometimes we need a little levity in life to uplift us and provide a necessary pause in the daily grind. That’s what I hope to achieve through The Prudence Profile. It’s the process and the outcome. I love flexing my brain in a different way, and I love interacting with others about our shared interests.
What is your favorite makeup trend ever?
My favorite makeup trend started in Ancient Egypt…it’s the cat-eye. The interpretation of the cat-eye developed with each era from the sultry 60s cat-eye to the punk rock cat-eye of the 80s to current runaway geometric cat-eyes. I have a special affinity for this trend as well; I wear liquid eye liner 90% of the time I put on makeup, because it helps to make me look more awake and to enhance any eye shadow look. Personally. I use brown liner for daily looks, because it’s softer than black. My current favorite is the Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liner and the K-Palette Real Lasting Liquid Eyeliner.
If you could travel to anywhere in the world where would you go?
My travel bucket list is infinite, but the top three countries I want to visit are Greece, Italy, and Japan.
If you could only use one brand of makeup forever which would be?
This is another tough one! If I had to choose just ONE makeup brand to use forever, it would be NARS. The brand has an extensive collection that covers the entire spectrum of makeup products and beauty tools. Being the lipstick fiend that I am, I think NARS has the best line of lip products. I love the unique gloss-stain hybrid of the Velvet Lip Glides, the ease of application and color selection of the Velvet Matte and Satin Lip Pencils, and the full saturation of the Audacious lipsticks. The Radiant Creamy Concealer provides good coverage without looking cakey and has minimal creasing when set with a powder. Has anyone tried the Soft Matte Complete Concealer that comes in a pot? And course, NARS’ powder products receive cult-status including the Laguna bronzer and blushes. Their face brushes are also highly recommended, but I have yet to invest in one.
Whew! I’ve answered all the questions. Next up, I am going to nominate the following blogs for the Liebster Award:
