Greeting from Houston! A month ago I repaid a visit to this city. My long weekend was spent going to the Houston Rodeo, meeting up with good friends, and eating plenty of good food (crawfish season, anyone?). Although the forecast predicated showers, it stayed dry and sunny, only raining overnight. During my visit, I had to capture my outfit in front of this popular mural. This look pretty much sums up my typical easy but chic travel look. It’s quick to pack and is comfortable for a variety of travel activities. Worn alone or layered, it can be styled many ways for nice evening occasions or casual day outings.
A simple tank or shirt dress is a great base layer. Depending on body type and comfort, the shape will vary from person-to-person. I like a column tank dress with a sleeveless or strappy top at the midi or above-knee length in black and various shades of gray. As for the fit, I prefer ones loosely graze that body—modestly defining one’s shape without clinging too tightly. This makes it versatile to layer pieces over or under the dress. I prefer a mid-weight fabric as not to be sheer in the sunlight while remaining cool and breezy.
Often when I travel, I’m out for an entire day from daylight to nightfall. Luckily, the weather was temperate. I wore my leather jacket in the evenings or when it got chilly with AC. A denim jacket or lightweight cardigan are casual alternatives. To keep the look more edgy, I wore my metallic boots. They’re a bit more dressed up than trainers while looking sleek and are comfortable to walk all day in. Accessories include layered necklaces, piles of rings, and my go-to Ray-Bans.
